Studio Policies

Expectations at the studio

  • Students should arrive for lessons on time.

  • Students should have their materials and music.

  • Students and accompanying parents and family members should remove their shoes in the entrance foyer.

  • There is only one chair available in the studio. Other accompanying parents and family members are welcome to wait in the entrance foyer, in their vehicle, or drop-off and pick up in a timely manner.

  • Student progress discussions should be held before class begins or immediately after the lesson ends, so that each student’s instruction time is respected. Additional discussions are always welcome through text, email, or by telephone.

  • No good or gum is allowed in the studio. Nails should be trimmed shortly.

Practice expectations

  • Students should practice daily on a well-maintained acoustic piano or full sized (88 keys) digital piano with weighted keys.

  • Practice expectations:

    Level Prep-2 15-30 minutes daily

    Level 2-5 40-60 minutes daily

    Level 6-7 60-90 minutes daily

    Level 8-10 90-150 minutes daily

Parent participation

  • Parents should be supportive and active participants at home.

  • Parents are encouraged to attend and observe lessons once a month or more.

  • Parents are encouraged to be present at studio recitals.

Materials

Information on material purchases will be provided. Each student receives individualized instruction, materials can vary from student to student. Parents should purchase the suggested material in a timely manner.

Each student should also have a piano or full size, 88 key, weighted keyboard. Students should also purchase a three-ring binder to keep notes from lessons and any music we are working on.

Performances

  • Students are encouraged to participate in twice-yearly studio recitals, usually held in December and May (dates vary depending upon recital hall availability).

  • Students are encouraged to participate in yearly theory tests. Additional information will be provided in advance.

  • Students are encouraged to participate in district and state auditions. Additional information will be provided in advance.

Student cancellation

  • Cancelations must be made at least 24 hours in advance of a scheduled lesson time in order for the lesson to be excused.

  • School testing dates, early release schedules, doctor’s appointments, etc. should be communicated well in advance so that proper schedules and invoicing can be prepared.

  • Lessons cancelled on the day of the lesson will only be rescheduled for sudden illnesses, weather, or family emergency.

  • Last minute cancellations (30 – 60 minutes before lesson) are not acceptable.

  • If insufficient notification is given, you are responsible for paying for the missed lesson.

  • If a lesson is missed without any notice or cancelled within 30 minutes of the lesson, no matter what the circumstance, there will be an additional $5.00 inconvenience fee. If a lesson is missed without notice more than once, I reserve the right to remove you from my studio.

Teacher cancellation

  • I will hold myself to provide 24 to 48 hours for any rescheduling needed.

  • If I am sick or need to suddenly reschedule, I will give as much notice as possible. I will work to reschedule, and / or I will credit your account for the following month.

Payment

  • The studio provides in-studio classes in the following time blocks subject to availability:

    • 30 minutes/$26.00

      45 minutes/$39.00

      60 minutes/$52.00

  • Payment is based on the number of lessons in a month, with a minimum of four classes per month.

  • Payment is due in advance for the entire upcoming month, and should be provided no later than 11:59PM on the 1st of each month.

  • A late fee $5 will be charged for all payments made after the 1st of each month.

  • No refunds will be provided.

  • Zelle electronic payments are preferred (using my email address larisasummer@yahoo.com), but I also accept Venmo payments (using @larisasummer) or PayPal (using Larisa Battaglia: larisasummer85@gmail.com) only if marked as a friend / family transaction (please do not mark as a business transaction, otherwise there will be a fee).

  • Checks and cash are acceptable as long as it is received before the 1 st lesson of the month to avoid late fees.

  • Lessons are meant to be continuous throughout the entire school year, but I understand that things happen from time to time, such as moving schools, cities, financial hardships, etc. In this case, I should be informed in advance, before the next upcoming month to avoid automatic invoicing and charging.

  • Fees may be adjusted at the start of each school year.

  • All new students require to pay registration fees of $10 which includes printable materials, provided by teacher. This fee also includes the reservation of your time slot in the studio and it won't be given to any other student.

Summer Classes

  • Students continue lessons during the summer – please let me know if you have vacation/travel plans during the summer months.

  • If students miss lessons for more than a month, a fee of $20 per month will be assessed to keep their slot in the schedule. If payment is not provided, the student will need to re-register at the beginning of the academic year as a new student.

  • Summer time traveling dates can be discussed in advance, and you will not be required to pay for those lessons as long as they are discussed in advance.
